Medicare Part D is an optional program to help Medicare beneficiaries pay for self-administered prescription drugs. Part D plans are offered by private insurance companies that contract with Medicare.
Who is eligible?
Anyone who has Medicare Part A or Part B is eligible for Part D. You must live in the service area of the plan you wish to join.
When to enroll?
You can enroll in a Part D plan during your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP), which is the 7-month period that begins 3 months before you turn 65, includes the month you turn 65, and ends 3 months after the month you turn 65.
